Subject: Make a donation before
the
end of 2005
From: "U.S. Fund for UNICEF" <email@unicefusa.org>
This time last
year, when the tsunami devastated South Asia, your
generosity changed the lives of more than 4 million children.
Within
48 hours, UNICEF staff mobilized support in every country affected by
the tsunami... and then began to rebuild the lives of millions of
families. Your donation, and donations from millions of others around
the world, enabled UNICEF to:
Immunize
more than 1,215,000 children against deadly childhood diseases,
providing protection for life against polio, diphtheria, TB, whooping
cough, measles, and tetanus — diseases that most of our
children don't
have to worry about anymore;
Deliver
240,000 bed nets to protect children against the increased risk of
malaria transmitted by mosquitoes in the tsunami-devastated coastal
areas;
Restart school
for over 560,000 children through our school-in-a-box kits.
As
you know, 2005 has been a year of devastating disasters, but thanks to
supporters like you, UNICEF has been able to respond rapidly and
effectively, providing immediate relief and longer-term reconstruction
in the wake of the tsunami, the famine in Niger, Hurricane Katrina and,
most recently, the Pakistan earthquake.
As the New Year approaches, we hope you will, once again, make a
promise to the world's most vulnerable children by making
a
tax-deductible year-end gift of $50, $100, $500, or
whatever you can afford.
With
your gift, you will help feed children (malnutrition is the underlying
cause of more than half of all childhood deaths). You will help provide
basic education for children, especially girls. And you will help fight
against HIV/AIDS, which has already made orphans of 15 million children.
Your tax-deductible
gift will protect children who are malnourished, ailing,
frightened, caught in the crossfire of brutal wars and, too often,
utterly alone.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
U.S. Fund for UNICEF
P.S. Please make your gift
online right now . Or you can print out this
form and mail it with your check. Thank you, and our very
best wishes for 2006.

Your
generosity in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina
has made a significant difference in the lives of
children throughout
the Gulf Coast region. On behalf of UNICEF and the families you
have
helped, we wish to express our most sincere thanks.
As
you may know, this marks the first time, since its founding in 1946,
that UNICEF has assisted with an emergency response in the United
States. With your help, 1,586 schools-in-a-box and 737 recreation
kits
have been distributed to communities affected by Katrina.
Relief operations timeline
In
the initial phase of relief operations, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF
established a Hurricane Katrina Task Force — a team of staff
from across the organization to ensure that every aspect of the
endeavor was handled with care.
The
first UNICEF aircraft carrying supplies from the Copenhagen
warehouse landed at the Air Force base in Little Rock, Arkansas on
September 9, carrying 975 education and recreation kits. Task
Force
member David Marts, director of operations for the U.S. Fund, arrived
on September 11, and set up a local coordination center at Lomanco
Warehouse. David Gill, a representative of Church World Service, was
instrumental in securing the space.
Randy
Siler, the UPS Gateway Manager in Little Rock, responsible for the
delivery of every package that goes through the state, and
Marts spent September 12 arranging for delivery of the kits
throughout
the Gulf Coast region.
Randy
Siler, UPS Gateway Manager (right) and UPS drivers Tom Campbell and
Louis Turner (back) meet Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee (left)
at the
Little Rock Air Force Base where UPS picked-up UNICEF supplies for
delivery to communities throughout the Gulf Coast.
The
Lomanco staff made a fork-lift available on a moment's notice and
loaded the first truck with UNICEF kits to be delivered to one of the
U.S. Fund for UNICEF's partner organizations in the relief effort — the
NAACP. The NAACP accepted 695 kits, which were then redistributed
further south.
A
second plane arrived on September 13, with 760 more kits in total.
Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee came to meet the second plane and was
very supportive of the relief work. As the need for additional
schools-in-a-box in Mississippi and Louisiana became apparant in
subsequent weeks, a final shipment was arranged and reached the
Air
Force base on October 10.
UNICEF visits with survivors In
mid-October, several members of the Katrina Task Force traveled to
Jackson and Biloxi, Mississippi, and met with students and teachers who
had been the beneficiaries of UNICEF's support.
Task
Force member John Donohue reports, "Many teachers told us that they
couldn't believe UNICEF — an organization they had contributed to as
part of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign when they were
children — was now providing support to them. We heard them say,
'I
used to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF and look, lo and behold, UNICEF is
here in our moment of great need. I never would have imagined such a
thing.'"
Kiní
Schoop, another Task Force member, was proud to learn first-hand
just
how much of a difference the schools-in-a-box had made. "When teachers
and students were first back in school, they had no supplies
whatsoever," she said. "The first shipment of supplies to reach
teachers in Biloxi was from UNICEF."
You
make
it possible As
the U.S. Fund for UNICEF continues to receive donations for Hurricane
Katrina relief, we will assess the need for additional kits and provide
assistance to our partner NGOs, such as the NAACP and Church World
Service, in meeting the needs of those still struggling to recover
after the devastation brought by Hurricane Katrina.
Because
UNICEF's lifesaving programs are funded entirely by voluntary
contributions, donors like you play an essential role in helping us
fulfill our mission. Again, we thank you for your generosity.
Sincerely,
The
U.S. Fund for

Dear Business
And Charity, LLC,
The
December 2004 tsunami in South Asia was one of the worst natural
disasters of the last four decades—and the largest relief effort
undertaken in World Vision's 55-year history.
Yet
the destructive force of the waves was matched by an equally powerful
response: your overwhelming generosity. All of us at World Vision were
humbled and inspired by the outpouring of generosity from U.S.
families, corporations, churches, and schools. We were flooded with
calls from so many friends—young children to CEOs, new partners to
long-time donors—all anxious to help. I thank you from the bottom of my
heart.
Now, visit www.worldvision.org/wvtsunami
to see the tangible hope your generosity has provided for nearly 1
million hurting children and family members during this first year of
rebuilding.
After a
year of rebuilding in the tsunami-affected regions, children and
families have found some stability and are beginning to plan for the
future. And thanks to generous donor gifts, World Vision will continue
to build on this strong progress in the coming years.
Thank you again for partnering with us in this
historic response and reconstruction effort.
Please continue to pray for the work that remains — and for the
children and families who are still in the process of rebuilding their
lives.
With gratitude,

Kiba,
Just wanted to let you
know that you are one of our top 10 fundraisers
for the Tsunami relief efforts! Great job!
Know that because of
your efforts, many families lives will be touched. Currently, World
Vision's efforts are moving from the relief phase to
the rebuilding phase. Our
work is beginning to focus on the lower-profile, less-visible work of
rebuilding communities, returning people to their homes and helping them
restart their livelihoods.
The media has moved it's
focus off the relief efforts, but World Vision
is committed to the region
for years to come. If you're looking for a way
to partner with us longer
term, please consider getting your church
involved in our Child Sponsorship
program.
As
a sponsor, you understand how sponsorship helps care for your sponsored
child and for their community. But many in your church may not know
that there is an option to have a one-on-one relationship with a child
in need. To learn more, go to www.worldvision.org/achildiswaiting
If you'd like to select
children from Asia, in the area most affected, please write that in the
notes section at the bottom of the Resource
Order Form.
God bless you for your
efforts!
